* SCHOOLS’ ANNUAL MATCH CHRIST’S COLLEGE IN GOOD p6sition [THB PRESS Special Service.] DUNEDIN. December 14. The annual cricket match between Christ’s Colle.ge and Otago Boys’ High School began to-day on the school ground In Ideal conditions. When stumps were drawn the visitors were In a strong position. Batting first, Christ’s College made 1991 High School was dismissed for the small total of 91. It seems likely that the home side will be required to follow on to-morrow morning. One of the opening batsmen, Williams, did not stay long; but the other, Monaghan, was dropped’when he had scored very few, and went on to make a valuable 36. The faster school bowlers were being played confidently, and the Christ’s College batsmen demonstrated that they had been well coached. Their style generally was attractive. A slow bowler, Somerville, claimed two good wickets in one over; but Morse and Rutherford settled Into a partnership which took the total well toward the 200 mark. Partridge, the best and fastest bowler In .the side, accounted for the former, and was mainly responsible for disposing of the tallenders. The home team’s fielding was keen, but the catching was not reliable. The visiting side started splendidly in the field. Two bowlers of good pace, Ellis and McSweeney, each captured a wicket In his first over, and although Overton put up a fight at one end, the batsmen came and went quickly at the other. Overton was out in the first over after the tea adjournment, and the High School’s position was desperate. Rennie, a stubborn left-hander, and Partridge did practically all of the recovery work that was done. A promising left-hand spin bowler. Norton, was tried, and he accounted for the last two wickets quickly. Christ’s College players fielded excellently, and their smart moving emphasised the bad running between the wickets of the Otago batsmen. Details;— CHRIST’S COLLEGE First Innings D. W.
