TAXI FARES

TO THE EDITOB OF THE PRESS. Sir, —I see by “The Press” this morning that Mr Fox is side-stepping the issue. He states that he based his challenge to me on the four words “Are not making wages’' and I fail to see why he does not pay in his cheque, as I have used these four words in my letter'of conditions. He also refers to the depression, while I refer to less than two years ago. He says that he is not concerned with the past, and that being so, how is he to determine what owner-drivers have earned during, the period of, say, the last year. When he makes out his income tax returns he will have to be concerned with the past. Mr Fox also states that it is for me and not him to prove that all owner-drivers are not making wages. Well. I have to thank Mr Fox for proving it to 'me • , ag , 'he‘frankly''states that the majority aif^fflirt each and everyone are making wages, which backs up my statements that all are not making wages. It is those who are not making wages or a success of their business that the Minister for Transport has classed as the worst pirates on the road, who should be put off the road. My advice to Mr Fox is to hand over his cheque and in future not to rush into print. I also notice that those who have been in the taxi business for some time are very silent about the charges I have made concerning earnings, overcharging, and the position of the taximeters. It would be interesting to hear their views.— Yours, etc., C. S. TRILLO. August 22, 1939.
