INCREASED CHARGES
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PBESS. Sir, —The question of drinking is of small interest to me, but justice and fairness are. To charge Is for a whisky because it has an, addition of cordial seems out of all proportion. The nips at Addington are the size that one can procure at most city hotels for 6d, so,I fail to see how they can be further reduced. I would at this stage ask Mr R, Bryant what happened when the addition of lemonade was made to beer. Was the extra 3d charged, or did the whisky drinker pay for that also. When are public tenders called for the catering? I cannot remember a notice to that effect. Cigarettes in town cost 6d, on the course 9d. The afternoon tea at Is 6d is, to my mind, out of all proportion. Surely the public are entitled to something better than a few sandwiches and a cup of tea for thqt amount.
In conclusion, I will say that I will go out of my way to have these charges investigated by the proper authorities. Maybe I could interest the Industries and Commerce Department.—Yours, etc., JURIST. August 15, 1939.
