RANGIORA BRASS BAND APPEAL MADE FOR PUBLIC RECOGNITION A successful year and a sound financial position were reported at the annual meeting of the Rangiora Brass Band on Tuesday evening. Mr C. W. Tyler presided. Three borough councillors, Messrs H. R. Taylor, J. N. Lewis, and 7 'icholson, were present An appeal was made by the president for recognition of the band by the public. One form this recognition could take would be for members of the public to become honorary members of the band, the honorary membership list having been reopened this year. Officers elected were: —Patron, Mr C. I. Jennings; patroness, Mrs L. M. Rouse; president, Mr C. W. Tyler; vicepresidents. Mrs W. Lintott, and Rlessrs A. P. Strang. C. S. Ayers W. KAIKOURA BEATS CULVERDEN In a match between Culverden and Kaikoura, at Culverden, in the Hurunui senior Rugby competition, Kaikoura won by 6 points to 0. The game aroused much interest as both teams were the two leading teams in the competition. The game was very hard, even, and willing. Kaikoura’s score came from two penalties, kicked by Buswell and Norton. Mr E. B. Diehl was referee. In the junior match, the Kaikoura team was too strong for Culverden, and won by 13 to 0. Mr S. Maxwell was referee. * FARMING IN RUSSELL’S FLAT DISTRICT The weather this winter has been very favourable to the farmer in the Russell’s Flat district. Grain has been sown with the land in good order, and crops which are showing through the ground appear to hold promise for 'good harvests next year. , Four Inches of snow fell recently. A few lambs have appeared in the district. CARDS AND DANCE AT RUSSELL’S FLAT A card and dance evening held In the Russell’s Flat schoolroom recently was well attended. The prizes were won by Miss Burt, Miss Bloor, Mr A. Bryson, and Mr R. Taylor, Sheffield. After supper a dance was held. Mr J. Pritchett was master of ceremonies, and Mr W. Pettit played the music.
