POWER SUPPLY WORK IN CHEVIOT / PROGRESS SLOWED BY WEATHER %- Bad weather has caused a slowing in the work of the North Canterbury Electric Power Board’s pole gang at Cheviot, but the progress is still satisfactory, according to a report from the engineer-secretary to the board (Mr A Buckingham). It is nopea to “have about 30 consumers in the county supplied by the end of thi week. 1 I ISSUE OF DRIVERS’ LICENCES INCREASE SHOWN FOR AMURI COUNCIL A total of 630 drivers’ licences has been issued by the Amuri County Council since June 1, compared with 568 for the same period last year. The total number of licences issued last year was 709, which is the highest number issued for one year by the council. „ Thirty-three heavy traffic licences have been issued to date, compared with 34 for. the same period last year. The number of licences issued last year was 52. The registration of motor vehicles at the Post Office, Culverden is qn a par with the figures for last year. METHODIST GUILD AT The Waikuku Methodist Ladies’ Guild celebrated its birthday by a party at the home of Mrs A. Judson, Waikuku. Visitors and friends from the Amberley, Woodend and Sefton Guilds attended. The Rev. J. Hall and Mrs D. Robinson welcomed the guests. Recitations were given by Mrs B. J. Archer and Mr Hall, songs by Misses Chamberlain (Amberley) and J. Judson, and duets by Miss Judson and Mrs A. Smith. Competitions were won by Mrs Hall and Mrs Smith. The birthday cake, made and decorated by a former president, Mrs P. Maddison, was cut by Mrs Hall. PRESENTATION AT WOODEND At a recent meeting of the Woodend Library committee, Mr J. Forbes made a presentation to Mr G. Gibling, who, after serving as librarian for many years, is leaving the district. Mrs F. Chinnery added a few words of appreciation for the women subscribers.
