PIPE BAND ENTERTAINED
RECENT CONTEST SUCCESSES There was a large attendance at the Sydenham Football Club Hall last Thursday evening, when the Enterprise Harmonica Band entertained their friends and supporters, and the City of Christchurch Highland Pipe Band. They made it a celebration of the success of both the bands at the Temuka contest. There were three presentations during the evening, one to Miss Henshaw, who is leaving to get married, and one to O. N. Dixon, assistant-conductor, who is leaving to take a position in Wellington. The bands wished them every success for the future. The band members also made a presentation to the conductor, Mr Best, in appreciation of the work he had done for the band. Special guests of the evening were Mr Will, president, and Mr Hean, secretary of the Canterbury Provincial Bands' Association, Mr Charters, president of the Pipe Bands' Association, and Mr Sutton, judge at the recent contest. Mr Sutton gave a report on the harmonica bands playing at the contest, explaining how they would be able to improve the standard. of their playing still further. Items by Mr Lovatt, Mr~Dixon, and the Christchurch Piano Accordion Band were thoroughly enjoyed.
