. « REDUCTION OF 13,972 ON LAST YEAR. (press association teleobam.) WELLINGTON, November 4. The unemployment return for October 22, 1938, issued by the Minister! for Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong), I including those on the register who are for health or other reasons unfit for employment, discloses a reduction of 13,972 as against the corresponding figure for October 23, 1937. Compared with the position for last month there is a decrease of 366. Details are:—! Registered but not on relief, 726; on sustenance awaiting placement, 0; on scheme No. 5 relief, 519; total, 1245; on sustenance, unfit for employment for health or other reasons, but being afforded relief from employment promotion fund, 7964. ! For the four-weekly period under review the expenditure from the fund under the heading of promotion of employment as distinct from relief ex-i penditure is estimated at £512,827. j
