FOURTH ANNUAL DANCE

CO-OPERATIVE DAIRY COMPANY

The staff of the Canterbury Central Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd. held its fourth annual dance in the Jellicoe HalL Music for dancing was supplied by the Dawson-Winfield orchestra.

Arrangements for the entertainmen' had been made by Misses E. Prestney F. H. Sandom, Messrs A. Pain, R. E. J Menzies (honorary secretary), R. Ellis G. Morrow, and R. Liddle. Prizes for novelty dances were won by Mr and Mrs Tongue, jun., Miss Gwen Harris and Mr B. Nicolle. Among those present were Mesdames A. E. Pain. A. W. McClelland E. M. Blackler, H. ONE-ACT PLAYS

AN ENTERTAINING PROGRAMME

A programme of six one-act plays was presented by Miss Lucy Cowan to a large and appreciative audience in the Radiant Hall last evening. The first, a drama with a Polish setting, was presented by Aithna Cato, Marjorie Lewis, Brenda Macan, Kenneth Low, Nancy Fleming, Eric Bates, and Antony Young. This was followed by a comedy, with Joyce Young. Thelma Rickard. Dawson Douglas, and May Low in the cast. Two dramas followed, the first being presented by Kenneth Low, Eber Hollander, Marjorie Nelson, Marjorie Lewis, Clive McNeill, and Dudley Carter, and the second by Joyce Young. Betty Harrison, Norah Middleton, Dudley Carter, Marjorie Nelson, Marjorie Rossiter, and Antony Young. The players for a comedietta were Nell Gillespie, Lucy Cowan. Nancy Fleming, Marjorie Rossiter, Brenda Macan, Aithna Cato, and for a comedy farce, Dawson Douglas, Thelma Rickard, Nell Gillespie, Dudley Carter, May Low. Eber Hollander, Eric Bates, and Antony Young.

The well-arranged programme was interspersed v ith vocal dusts by Messrs J. H. Cocks and R. Allison, and solos by Miss Ailsa Crompton and Mr Robert Allison. Mrs J. H. Cocks was the accompanist.

ST. CUTHBERT’S GUILD

The final meeting for the year of St Cuthbert’s Ladies’ Guild. Governor's Bay. took the form of an afternoon social, and many members and friends were present. . „ „ A competition was won by Mrs Mayo and Mrs T. Radcliffe (equal), Mrs Witte played piano solos, which were much appreciated. Prize-winners in the floral competitions were:—Three anemones: Mrs Brown 1, Miss Wheeler 2. Ranunculi; Mrs Brown 1, Mrs Wheeler 2. Afternoon tea was served by members.
