NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS
♦ . ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY MEETING Additional members of the fish and game committees were appointed at a meeting of the council of the North, Canterbury Acclimatisation Society last evening, after a motion proposed by Mr C. H. Lawrence that the numerical strength of the committees be increased had been carried. Mr Lawrence said that three members of the council who had given long and faithful service were not members of a committee. ' He felt it was a general desire that every member of the council should have an opportunity to get on a committee in the work of which he was most interested. After the motion had been carried it was decided to appoint Messrs R. A. Falla, R. Ashworth, and J. McKenzie to the game committee, and Messrs Falla, F-. Banks, and Professor E. Percival to the fish committee. Satisfaction with the financial position shown by the statement for the month was expressed by Mr Lawrence, chairman of the finance committee, who said that expenses had been kept down to the minimum. There had been a credit balance, and there had been no need to draw on the reserves. • It was decided to urge the Department of Internal Affairs to grant permits, subject to the society’s approval, to those who wished to keep pheasants in captivity, provided that the birds were to be disposed of by liberation only. __________
