NORTH BEACH GALA SOCIETY
QUARTERLY MEETING HELD The quarterly meeting of the North Beach Gala and Foreshore Society was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith) presided, and gave a detailed report of the work of the executive and outlined the proposed alterations to the Memorial Hall. Mr W. E. S. Furby gave an account of the history of the society since its inception 18 years ago. He also explained the change of the management committee of the hall and referred to the arrangements made with the New Brighton Borough Council for the improvements and future control of the hall. Mr Purby paid a tribute to the generous manner in which the council had treated the society and the district. The treasurer’s statement showed a credit balance of £9l 19s 3d, with a liability of £75 to be paid to the borough council on completion of the improvements to the hall, s A resolution was carried expressing appreciation of the services to the society of Mr S. E. Hamilton. It was decided that he be made a life member when the rules were altered for the election of life members. A special meeting of the society was held, when the rules were altered, reducing the annual subscription and providing for local organisations to have a representative on the executive of the society.
