♦ LOPEZ BEATS RAINES IN FAST BOUT MEXICAN WINS ON POINTS AT WELLINGTON (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEOBAU.) WELLINGTON, July 4. Vincent Lopez, the Mexican professional wrestler, won his first match in Wellington, to-night, by beating Dick Raines on points. Two hurricane rounds, providing the most vigorous wrestling of the season, ended in Raines obtaining a fall with his “back-breaker” hold. The third round was the most torrid of the bout, and left the wrestlers showing signs of the strain of so fast a pace. In the sixth round, Lopez dumped Raines and pressed him. The final rounds were wild. The wrestlers were dazed with interchanging elbow-jolts, staggering about the ring arid rolling through the ropes into’the crowd. The referee was kept even busier than usual, the two big men showing at times complete disregard for his presence in the ring.

NEW REGULATION FOR AMATEUR BOUTS CRITICISM IN AUCKLAND U-aiiSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, July 4, The new Government regulation affecting the conduct of amateur wrestling bouts, providing that no contests other than between professionals shall exceed four rounds, was criticised by Auckland enthusiasts, “The silliest thing that has yet been done,” said the chairman of the amateur committee of the Auckland Wrestling Association (Mr H. J. Ashby), He added that it must have been introduced on the advice of the Dominion Union in Wellington, and argued that in ignorance of the rules, the full Olympic rules had been wrestled by amateurs in inter-gymnasium contests in the last two weeks, and had proved most successful. The new regulation was worse than the old three fiveminute round rule, as there was no real test of ability, and it meant long-drawn-out contests, possibly 21 minutes. He said the amateur committee would be meeting this week to consider the matter.

BIG BOUT TO-MORROW NIGHT Big, strong, and willing to try anything likely to end a match in his favour in the shortest possible time, Dick Raines, the Texas cowboy, who is to have his first Christchurch match against Andy Moen to-morrow, likes the proceedings in the ring to be fast and spectacular the whole time, for it is in such circumstances that he is.

seen at his best. Moen is another of the same 'kind, as wrestling enthusiasts all over the country have come to appreciate, and, with these two men in the ring together the public is assured of one of the most thrilling displays ever seen in the wrestling ring. Standing 6ft lin in height, and weighing 16J stone, Raines is a magnificent physical specimen.
