FAITH AND REASON
TO THE BDITOB Of THE PEESB. Sir,—Reading the Rev. T. C. Hammond’s address on this subject, ana that part of the book Of Genesis, The Creation, Why Should children be taught that this is literally true. From an allegoric point of view, like many more Scriptural passages, as few would not admit, the chapter Is very interesting. The condition of! Adam and Eve. before eating of the Tree of Knowledge, was like a few of out primitive races to-day, about on par with the rest of the animal world. They knew not good, or evil, right, or wrong, were not conscious even of being naked. The speaker must know quite well that this Tree Of Knowledge was the result of bitter circumstances; and from primitive Adam down to the present day, the human race is Still partaking of this fruit..The sin is that we do not eat, metaphorically speaking, as much as we ought to. It is a mistake to assume that mankind is most happy when, like our first parents, they are sunk m ignorance. For thousands of years people have been denied this Tree of Knowledge It is only in our time that the phrase, “Come, let us reason together,’’ has been effective. Mr Hammond could have mentioned, had he chosen, several essential points that only faith could uphold. I have failed to find an individual who really believed in his heart there is no God. Why inquire further?— Yours, etc., R.C. June 12, 1938:
