A CLOSED PARKING SPACE
VO TBB SDITOB D» TUB PRBSS. Sir,—On approaching that section of Oxford terrace between Worcester street and Gloucester street to-day I found several ‘“No Parking" standards placed there. This has been a most convenient place for those, having business in the city to park their cars, and there is still ample space left for the two-way traffic along the terrace. I do not know whether the City Council has revoked a former decision to allow parking along this area, or whether it is another attempt on the part of the traffic department to show its “usefulness.” But it is certainly another step in the direction of harassing motorists whose business compels them to bring their cars into the city, and calls for an immediate protest from the Automobile Association and others concerned.—Yours, etc., MOTORIST.
June 14, 1938. [This matter was discussed at a meeting of the Christchurch City Council on Monday night and the Inclusion of the portion of Oxford terrace between Worcester and Gloucester streets in the noparking. areas of the city was approved. There was a full report of the subject in “The Press" of Tuesday morning.—Ed., “The Press.”!
