VERDICT OF ACCIDENTAL DROWNING

A verdict of death from drowning when he accidentally fell into the Avon river at Riccarton on May 27 was returned at'an inquest on Saturday afternoon into the death of a three-year-old boy, George Ivan Ray, the only son of Mr and Mrs G. L. Ray, of 28 Kctare street. Riccarton, by the Coroner, Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M. The inquest was held at the child’s home. It appeared that the child had crawled under a wife-netting fence at the back of the house and had gone to the river, which was about 40 yards away. He was last seen at 3.10 p.m., and at 3.30 p.m. the body was found by his grandfather, Mr J. D. Mathieson. on a mudbank in the river about six chains away. The doctor who called found the child to be dead.
