CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING

TRIAL RUNS HELD KENNETT CUP RACE NEXT WEEK Trial runs in preparation for the Kennett Cup steeplechase next week and the Takahe-Akaroa relay race on June 25 were held by the cross-country clubs on Saturday. Details of the runs are as follows: Presbyterian The Presbyterian Club held a road race over a course of about eight miles in preparation for the Akaroa relay. Starting from the Barrington Street Church, the trail led through the Spreydon and Halswell districts. Results—R. Lindsay 1, J. Labudde 2. I. Clarkson 3, B. Matthews 4, R. C. Ritchie 5, A. - Pehsenfeld 6, W. Hewitt 7. B. Couchman 8. BAPTIST From the home of Mr and Mrs H. G. Lietaert, Cosset street, St. Albans, the Baptist packs followed a trial of six miles and a half laid by E. Franks and R. Neilson through St. Albans and Marshland. Results: — Racing Pack—F. Mair 1, E. A. Riddle 2. Fast Pack—M. Hardy 1, L. Suckling 2, K. Mackenzie 3. Intermediate Pack—R. Brown 1, V. Clark 2. B. Nuttall 3. Slow Pack—W. Eagle 1, J. Thompson 2. D. Voller 3. METHODIST AND UNIVERSITY The Methodist Club held its teams’ race over a short course round Hagley Park, starting from the Durham Street Methodist Church.- Members of the University packs ran over the same course. The Methodist Club’s race was won by R. Rudkin’s team, with A. H. Wayman's second and R. Dunn’s third. D. H. Adamson was first man home in the University Club’s fast pack, and A. H. Martin in the slow pack. MARIST Members of the Marist Club ran from the home of Mr C. E. Sharpe, Fisher street, Beckenham. R. Sweeney and C. Sharpe laid a trial of six miles and a half. Results: — Fast Pack—A. O’Connell 1, A. Sheridan 2, E. Watson 3. Intermediate Pack —A. Flanagan 1. E. Haughey 2, P. Sharpe 3. Slow Pack—M. Urquhart 1, J. O'Brien 2. J. Paynter 3. ANGLICAN The Anglican Club held a handicap race at Riccarton racecourse over the Kennett Cup course. Results were:—J. F. Booker (scr) 1, A. Brady (scr) 2. E. Cumberpatch (Sml'n) 3, D. W. Forbes (Jmin) 4, E. Hood (Imin) 5, A. Menzies (IJmln) 6. CHRISTCHURCH Members of the Christchurch Club were guests of Mr and Mrs H.- S. Cordery, Stapleton’s road, Shirley. E. L. Cordery and E. Knight laid a trail of five miles through Burwood. Results were:— Fast Pack—C. Dickie 1, T. S. Kennedy 2, L. J. Sparkes 3. Intermediate Pack—K. Taylor 1, J. T. Kotoul 2. F. H. Cookson 3. Slow Pack—R. Hooper 1, C. Taylor 2, H. Meredith 3.
