FIFTY ARRESTED AFTER RAID
♦ ■ GAMING CHARGES LAID AT AUCKLAND (PBE33 ABSOOIATIOH TELEOBAM.) AUCKLAND, May 29. Fifty men were arrested after a police raid on premises in the city on Saturday night. The men were later charged before a Justice of the Peace with gaming offences and were remanded on bail to appear in the Magistrate’s Court to-morrow. Bail was fixed at £IOO in the case of Clarence William Russell, a labourer, who was charged with being the occupier of the premises, and with using them as a common gaminghouse. Walter Charles Absolum, a slaughterman, and Bert Thomas, a labourer, who were both charged with assisting in the management of a common gaming-house, were remanded on similar bail. In the case of the others, bail was fixed at varying amounts of £3 and £5.
