THE BRACKENFIELD HUNT
ANNUAL MEETING AT RANGIORA
The annual meeting of the Brackenfield Hunt was held at Rangiora yesterday afternoon, when Mr H. D. Greenwood presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Messrs Denis Chapman, G. Croft, W. V. Guy, J. W. Frizzell, and J. G. Macdonald.
A credit balance of £132 16s was shown. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr J. B. Starkey; master, Mr W. D. Greenwood; committee, Miss M. Little, Messrs B. Rutherford. G. Wright, and H. M. Burgin; huntsman, Mr J. McArthur; whips, Messrs R. Parsons, and I. Menzies; auditor, Mr C. I, Jennings: women’s committee, Mesdames Greenwood, MacPhail, J. R. Little, D. Chapman, March, G. Wright, Misses J. Anderson, R. Little, M. Little, and R. Macdonald, with power to add. Mrs D. Chapman was elected an honorary life member of the club. It was decided to hold the opening meet at Swannanoa on April 30. The meeting made a recommendation to the committee that two days’ hunting be held at Culverden during the season.
ACCIDENTS
WOMAN BREAKS LEG AT AKAROA
Miss L. Vangioni, while climbing a fence at Akaroa during the week-end, slipped and broke a leg above the ankle. After treatment at the Akaroa Hospital by Dr. W. J. Edginton, she was taken to Christchurch on Monday for X-ray treatment
OBITUARY
MR H. M. TWEEDIB
A well-known resident of Gore Bay, Mr Hector Macdonald Tweedie, died recently. Of the hundreds who have visited the bay, most have paid a visit to his shelter overlooking the ocean. He was the eighth and youngest son of old residents of Gore Bay.
GOLF MATCHES
HANMER SPRINGS CLUB
In the final of the men’s senior championship of the Hanmer Springs Golf Club, over 36 holes, P. Flower beat D. Stark 6 and 4.
The finalists in the men’s junior championship are T. Menzies and B. Harper. Miss H. McLeod beat Miss M. Townend 5 and 4 in the final of the women’s junior championship over 18 holes. The following returned the best cards in the first round for the Lodge Cup:— L. Basher 1 down, H. Peek 2 down, T. Menzies 3 down, L. Lapthorne 3 down.
WOMEN’S GAMES AT HAWARDEN
In the Hawarden Ladies' Golf Club’s stroke competition, the best scoits were returned by Mrs F. Barker, net 71, and Miss M. Wright, net 78. Best junior scores were: Mrs Parsonage 62, Miss G. Evans 70, Miss E. Miles 71, Miss M. Hoban 74.
The best bogey scores on Saturday were: Senior, Mrs F, Barker, 9 down; junior, Mrs Fraser, 1 up, and Mrs Patchett, 6 down.
STABLEFORD BOGEY AT KAIKOURA
The members of the Kaikoura Golf Club played a Stableford bogey, the following cards being returned;—W. A. Nelson 34, JL. Gower 33, B. Cunneen 32, H. Stove 32, H, Wilson 31, H. J. Brown 31, E. WOMEN’S HOCKEY AT GREENDALE
The annual meeting of the Greendale Women’s Hockey Club was held recently. Mr H. R. Veitch, president, presided. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr J. Gillanders; president, Mr H. B. Veitch; vice-presidents, Mesdames L. J, Early, E. P. Adams. L. H. Adams, H. B. Shipley, and Miss H. Rudd, Messrs F. Cullen, L. A. Black, T. Locker, F. W. Compton; secretary and treasurer, Miss D. Black; captain, Miss A. Locker; vice-captain, Miss Joyce Hockridge; referees, Mrs F. Cullen, Messrs F. Collin, Eric Adams, and Frank Gough; Teams’ selector, MrS F. Cullen; committee, the captain, vicecaptain, secretary. Misses A, Early, V. Banks, L. Adams; delegates to Malvern Sub-Association, Misses A. Locker'and D. Black. It was decided to open the season on April 23.
HARVEST THANKSGIVING AT AKAROA
Harvest thanksgiving service was held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Akaroa, on Sunday evening. The Rev. W. R. Bartle gave an address. The church was decorated with fruit, vegetables, flowers, grain, and produce.
DEFENCE RIFLE SHOOTING
AT CHEVIOT
The Cheviot Defence Rifle Club fired a match against the Staveley Club over 300 and 900 yards at the Cheviot Hills range Staveley winning by two points.
KAIKOURA BEATS OMIHI
AT CRICKET
The Kaikoura cricket team flayed a match against Omihi during the weekend on the Takahanga Domain, Kaikoura having an easy win. Omihi made 196. and Kaikoura 300.
The Styx Presbtyerlan Church Tennis Club gave a tennis party on Saturday in honour of Miss Lilian Martin, who will be married this week. Miss M«rttn was presented with a hanging mirror. '
