FAREWELL SOCIAL AT TAI TAPU

PRESENTATION TO METHODIST MINISTER

The Rev. Moses Ayrton, who has been minister of the Tai Tapu Methodist Circuit for four years, was, with his wife and daughter, given a farewell by the congregations of the Tai Tapu, Greenpark, and Prebbleton churches on Friday evening in the Tai Tapu Methodist Sunday schoolroom. Mrs R. McLachlan, Messrs T. Q. Morgan, and W. Bray spoke of the good the minister and his wife and family had done for the church, and assured them that they would take with them to their new home -in Richmond, the best wishes of the congregations. The chairman (Mr William Barnett), for the circuit, made presentations to the guests, Mrs Ayrton being given an eiderdown, Mr Ayrton an electric radiator, and Miss Ada Ayrton a hymnbook and pair of motoring gloves. Items were given by the following:— Misses Elsie Griffiths. Kathleen Mangels, and Van Griffiths (songs). Miss Jean Tobeck, Masters John Michael, Garth Peryman, and Owen Griffiths (recitations), Mrs R. McLachlan and Mr T. O. Morgan (readings). Mrs Ayrton was the guest at a meeting of the Ladies’ Guild, when she was given an electric reading lamp presented to her from members by Mrs R. McLachlan. vice-president.

AT SPRINGSTON

PRESENTATIONS MADE TO MINISTER

The Rev. C. H. Kendon preached his farewell service at Springston on Sunday to a large congregation. Special songs were sung by the juvenile choir and a duet by Mrs Marshall and Miss Porter. Mrs Kendon was organist. At the conclusion of the service a social was held in the schoolroom. Mr R. Chamberlain presided. Addresses of farewell were given by Messrs L. Chambers, E. J. Harris, and L. Blakemore, the last-named making a presentation from the circuit to Mr and Mrs Kendon of a travelling rug. Mr J. W. Marshal], for the Springston congregation, presented Mrs Kendon with a crystal rose bowl and vase. Mrs Kendon was morning organist for the last four years and also formed the juvenile choir. Miss Mary Peryman, for the choir, also made a presentation to Mrs Kendon. Mr C. Wallace played a pianoforte solo. Supper was served. PERSONAL NOTES RANGIORA Mr and Mrs H. A. Bennett and Miss D. Bennett have returned from a holiday visit to Australia. KAIAPOI Mrs A. Pearce and Miss P. Pearce have returned from a holiday at Mount Cook and Queenstown. Mr and Mrs H. J. Harrison (Kaiapoi) have returned from a motor trip to Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds. KIMBERLEY Mrs S. Coard, who has been spending a holiday with her sister. Miss S. McCausland, Kimberley, has left for Rangiora, where she will spend a few days with Mrs W. Henderson before returning to Dunedin. Mrs Talbot has returned to Riccarton. after spending a few days with Miss J. Manson, Kimberley. CONCERT FOR TENNIS CLUB AT GLENROY Tennis and shooting were to have been enjoyed by Mrs J. H. Cocks and party when they came out to Glenroy recently, but because of the weather other “entertainment was provided. Tea was prepared by the Glenroy Tennis Club. In the evening a successful concert was given by the party in aid of tennis funds. ANGLICAN HARVEST SERVICE AT GLENROY

The harvest thanksgiving service was held at the Anglican Church, Glenroy, recently. The church was decorated with flowers, greenery, sheaves of corn, vegetables, produce, and fruit. There was a good congregation. The Rev. C. W. I. Maclaverty conducted the service. The produce, fruit, and vegetables were forwarded to St. Saviour’s orphanage. PENINSULA SALEYARDS COMPANY The monthly meeting of the Peninsula Saleyards Company was held recently. Mr E. Hay was granted leave of absence during his visit to Great Britain, and a motion was carried wishing Mr and Mrs Hay and their two daughters an enjoyable trip Home. DANCE FOR TENNIS CLUB’S FUNDS The United Bays Tennis Club (Duvauchelle) held a successful dance at the Duvauchelle Hall. There was a. fair attendance. Miss Jean Stewart won the Turkey trot novelty dance and a competition resulted: Mr H. Hayward 1, Mr Scott Craw 2. The Minifle-Har-wood band played the music, and Messrs Reg. Mould and D. Kay were masters of ceremonies. The sum of £7 vlas raised for the club’s funds". KITCHEN EVENING AT BALCAIRN An enjoyable kitchen evening was held in the Balcairn Public Hall, in honour of Miss Connie Frost, who will be married shortly. There was a large gathering of friends, including members of the Balcairn Young People’s Club, of which Miss Frost and Mr R. Croft are members. A presentation was made by Mr W. Dermoft, who mentioned the esteem ir which Miss Frost was held by the i dents of the district. Mr B. Fitzpatrick, for the Young People’s Club, presented Miss Frost and Mr Croft with a clock. Competitions were won by Mesdames W. Scott and E. Smith, Messrs F. Fleming and D. Dron. Music was played by Mrs A. McNally and Mr E. Smith. Messrs J. Demmock and B. Fitzpatrick were masters of ceremonies.
