MARCH RAINFALL

KIMBERLEY The weather at Kimberley in March was mild with much fog and frequent rain. Rain fell on 12 days, totalling 2.87 inches, compared with 2.12 inches on eight days in March last year, and 5.71 inches in 1936. The maximum fall for ond day was on March 19, When 67 points fell. The average rainfall for March over the last five years is 2.26 inches. The total rainfall for the three months ended on March 31 was' eight inches, compared with 6.84 inches for the same period last year, and 14.2S inches in 1936. BASKETBALL AT SEFTON The annual meeting of the Seftoh Basketball Club was held recently, Mrs J. B. Wills presided. The bal-ance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit. The elections ,of officers resulted:— President, Mrs Wills; vice-presidents, Mesdames J. Peach, 'F. H. Ford, T. Hanna, R. Hanna, T. Watson, F. McGiffert; captain. Miss I. McGiffert; vicecaptain, Miss M. Peach: secretary, Miss J. Hanna; treasurer. Miss N. Henderson; referee, Miss M. McGrath. ARRANGEMENTS FOR KOWAI ' SPORTS The Kowai Athletic Sports Club met in the Public Hall to complete arrangements for its annual sports on Easter Monday. There was a large attendance. Mr D. McLean presided. Tenders for a loud speaker service and ice-cream and soft drink stands were accepted. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mr P. C. Lucas and family in their recent bereavement. An alteration to the chopping events was made. Cedar wood will be used instead of birch, as previously arranged. For the novelty horse events Mr L. Harley (Rangiora) was appointed handicapper. FAREWELL TO DUVAUCHELLE RESIDENTS Presentations were made at the monthly meeting of the Duvauchelle branch of the Women’s Institute to Mr and Mrs J. E. Thacker, who have left Duvauchelle to reside in Okain’s Bay. In making the presentations from residents, Mr S. J. Vogan expressed regret at Mr and Mrs Thacker leaving Duvauchelle, as they had both taken a keen interest in local affairs. He presented them with a log box and electric standard lamp. Mr Thacker said Mrs Thacker and himself had appreciated the kindness extended to them by the Duvauchelle residents. OPENING OF CULVERDEN GOLF CLUB The Culverden Golf Club held its opening of the 1938 season on Saturday in ideal weather. There was a large attendance of members and visitors from the Amur! and Hanmer Springs clubs. The president (Mr W. V. Mockett), In declaring the season open, wished the club success, and commented on the progress made last year. A flag match was won by Miss F. Mockett and P. R. Dearden. Trophies for the match were given by Mr W. y. Mockett and Mrs P. Thomson,
