SUPERPHOSPHATE SALES

CONCESSION TO FARMERS’ ORGANISATIONS

PRICE-CUTTING FORBIDDEN BY NEW REGULATIONS

(PSE9S ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, February 28. Dairy companies and farmers’ organisations are now placed on the same basis as merchants in the supply of fertilisers, enabling them to purchase superphosphate from manufacturers at wholesale prices, namely, £3 11s 6d in the North Island and £3 15s 6d in the South Island. In an announcement to-day by the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister for Industries and Commerce, it was stated that no reduction could be made to private purchasers because of the high cost of production, due to disturbed world conditions and increased freight charges. The new price regulations, replacing those of 1936, forbid price-cutting except in the form of a bonus or dividend in general trading profits not arising exclusively from sales of superphosphate.
