NEW GOVERNOR OF ROTARY
MR GEORGE HUTCHISON,
OF AUCKLAND
DECISION OF NATIONAL
CONFERENCE
Mr George W. Hutchison, C.M.G., fcrmer Mayor of Auckland, was selected by the National Rotary Conference yesterday as the new District Governor "of the New Zealand (53rd) District of Rotary International. Mr Hutchison's name will go forward to Rotary International as nominee for this office. Mr Hutchison was Mayor of Auckland for four years, and has held Vnany important public offices in the Auckland city and provincial district. He was a foundation member of the Auckland Rotary Club in 1921, and its president in 1928-29. As an accountant he has held important offices in, and is a fellow of, professional institutes. He is a companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George and a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour of France. The nomination of Mr Hutchison was made by Mr H. Thomas, president of the Auckland Rotary Club, and seconded by Mr S. L. P. Free (Masterton), and Mr H. Guthrie (Dunedin), who paid tribute to Mr Hutchison's services to the community. The retiring District Governor, Mr F. G. HallJones (Invercargill), also spoke in high praise of Mr Hutchison's work and wished him well in his period of office. Mr Hutchison, in thanking the conference for the honour bestowed on him, said he was deeply sensible of the responsibilities it entailed. Next Conference
An invitation to Rotarians to hold the next national conference of Rotary at Napier was extended on behalf of the Napier Rotary Club. Yesterday's was the final session of this year's conference.
Addresses were given by Mr P. Stanley Foster (Christchurch) on "Knowing the Other Fellow"; Mr H. Guthrie (Dunedin), on "My Year as Director; and the Montreux.lnstitute"; the Rev. H. W. Newell (Wellington), on "Loyalties": Mr James Hogg (Dunedin), on "Rotary and The Press," and the Rev. A. C. Watson (Christchurch), on "Rotary Ideals.".
A resolution of congratulation to the Christchurch Rotary Club was carried with enthusiasm.
On the motion of Mr Free, a resolution of thanks to the retiring District Governor and appreciation of his work was placed on record. The resolution was seconded by Mr A. E. Kincaid, president of the Christchurch Club.
Keen appreciation was expressed of the presence of Mr Angus Mitchell, a director and official representative of Rotary International. Mr Kincaid, on behalf of New Zealand Rotarians, presented a travelling rug to Mr Mitchell. A travelling rug was also presented to the Hon. R. Bilarain, a Judge of the High Court of India, and a leading Rotarian.
The Colty Cup, presented for attendance at the conference, was presented to the Auckland Club.
The conference has now concluded, but a picnic for Rotarians will be held to-day at the home of Sir R. Heaton Rhodes. Otahuna. To-morrow members will attend the Christchurch Rotary Club's annual church service, at St. Mary's, Merivale.
