ROTARY RESOLUTIONS
PLEA MADE FOR GREATER POPULATION
A plea for attention to the problem said to be contained in the size of New Zealand's population was made in a resolution passed by the national conference of Rotary Clubs yesterday. The resolution read:—
"Whereas in the opinion of this conference the need for a pronounced increase in our population is one of the most urgent and vital questions confronting New Zealand to-day, it is resolved: (1) That all Rotary Clubs in New Zealand should give this question most serious consideration with the object of inducing their members, and the public generally, to take such active measures as will best meet this pressing need. (2) That this conference is so impressed with the urgent need for increased population that it is of opinion that the gravest sacrifices should be made to attain this result so necessary to the well-being and even preservation of the Dominion."
The conference also moved the following resolution:— "Whereas Rotarians can give invaluable service by assisting the community to make better use of leisure it is resolved that all Rotary Clubs in this fifty-third district be requested to impress upon their members the importance of this need, and to urge them whole-heartedly to support educational, cultural, and real recreational movements in the community, and when they have employees, continually to impress upon them the importance of the wise use of leisure."
