At the Dominion bands contest, the minor events were continued this morning. Also competed: Feilding Municipal 62 points, Auckland Artillery P 8 points, Christchurch Municipal 67 points. B Flat or Double B Flat Bass Solo (“When Love is Kind”) —H. C. Unwin (Wanganui Garrison), 81 points, 1; E. D. Withell (Ashburton Silver), 80 points, 2: W. Wilkinson (Feilding Municipal), 79 points, 3. Also competed; R. Shackleton (Palmerston Garrison) 78 points, L. Jacobs (Wellington Institute) 73 points, S. Bennett (Wellington Institute) retired, H. Kendrew (Christchurch Municipal) 75 points, H. Booker (Palmerston City) 75 points, T. Murphy (Timaru Municipal) 74 points, E. Bloomfield (Ashburton Silver) 77 points, R. Scott (Waipukurau) 76 points. E Flat Tenor Horn —R. The following are the placings in the first selection of the A grade test: Port Nicholson Silver 1, Wanganui Garrison 2, Timaru Municipal 3, Wellington Tramways 4, Auckland Artillery 5, Palmerston North Garrison 6, Auckland First Battalion 7. The points will be declared at the conclusion of the second selection on Friday night. The winner of the cornet championship, who is aged 18, has never seen a printed note of music in his life, everything having to be transcribed in Braille for him. He won the New Zealand championship two years ago in his first competition. After the test to-night, regret was expressed at the death of Mr T. Lindsay Buick. vice-presidents of the New Zealand Bands’ Association: at the death of Mr P. C. Vinnell, Mayor of Timaru, whose son is a member of the Timaru Municipal Band; and at the death of Mrs Francis, wife of a member of the Wanganui Garrison Band, and the mother of the conductor and another member of the , same band, .
