A SUCCESSFUL DANCE

WOODFORD HOUSE OLD GIRLS TWO DEBUTANTES It is seldom that dances are held so early in the year, but the Woodford House Old Girls decided to hold their annual dance at the Winter Garden last night, and so give their friends who are in town for the midsummer race meeting an opportunity to attend. Many old girls and their friends accepted the invitation, and the entertainment proved all the more interesting because two former pupils of the school, Misses Patricia Guinness (Ealing) and Audrey Robinson (Christchurch), had taken the opportunity afforded of making their formal entrance into adult society. Special attention had been paid to the decorations. The orchestral dais in the ballroom had been banked with masses of hydrangeas and gladioli and nosy bowls of mixed flowers had been placed on tables in the alcoves. In the lounge the large bowls were bright with dahlias and hydrangeas in mauve and pink tonings and blue agapanlhus. Members of the organising committee were Mcsdames William Deans, J F. Cracroft Wilson, F: G. Bristed, p. X. Brittan, John Moore, Misses Peggv Acton-Adams. Diana Elworthy, Patricia Grigg, and Anne Morrow, wim Misses Nancy Buchanan and Relda Duncan as joint secretaries. Mrs Deans wore a cyclamen georgette frock trimmed with crystal buttons and finished with a large claretcoloured dahlia on the corsage; Mrs Cracroft Wilson wore a paisley patterned fringed shawl over her uncommon frock of old gold slipper satin; Mrs Bristcd's black georgette frock had pink shot silk roses on the shoulder and' brilliant clips and buckle for contrast; Mrs Brittan wore a black taffeta frock . embroidered with silver thread in sunray design, and a black velvet coatee; Mrs John Moore’s nmon frock and shoulder cape were patterned in an all-over design in green, flame, and blue tonings; Miss Peggy Acton-Adams trimmed her white moire frock with blue cornflowers at the neck-line; Miss Nancy Buchanan wore a black taffeta frock patterned with white and silver embroideries in heart-shaped design, and Miss Relda Duncan’s white silk crepe frock had a cowled panel at the back of the neckline. and insets of silver lame in the front of the bodice and in the belt. The Debutantes Miss Guinness wore an ivory frock of moire taffeta with a cluster of greenstemmed taffeta flowers at the square cowled- neckline which was low-cut at the back. Her short sleeved coatee was patterned in green and flame design on a white backgfound, and she carried a posy of pink flowers. Miss Robinson’s frock of white cobweb lace had short puffed sleeves, and finely pleated white net edged the square neckline and the hem. and formed the long sash swathed at the waist. A cluster of flowers at-the shoulder were also of the net, and her posy was of apricot and' yellow flowers. The Bailey-Marstou orchestra supplied the music.
