Mrs J. McCarthy and Misses Margaret and Bernadette McCarthy (Kurow) are spending several weeks in the North Island visiting Auckland, Frankton, and the King Country. Mr and Mrs Harvey J. Brunt, who have been spending a holiday at the Hotel Chateau, Moana, have returned to their home in Timaru. Mrs J. C. Butt (Rollesby Hall. Norfolk) will arrive in Christchurch at the end of February to visit relatives. Mrs R. Le F. Clark and. her sister, Miss H. Ensor. will leave on . February. 28 for Sydney, where they will join the Orontes en route for ■England. Mrs Bernard Falck -(Latimer square) will leave by the Rangitiki early next month for a visit to England. Her youngest son, Mr Brian Glover, who has been living in Auckland for the last two years, will accompany her. Miss A. M. Gibb (St. Albans), formerly arts and crafts mistress at the Christchurch and Avonside Girls’ High Schools, has been appointed to a similar-position at Solway College, Ma^sterton. Miss Millicent' O’Grady, who has been broadcasting, .in Christchurch, will leave next week- for Australia, where she has further broadcasting engagements to fulfil before she leaves for England,. Mrs William Deans, Miss Nancy Buchanan, and Miss Relda Duncan, who were members of the committee responsible for organising the Woodford House Old Girls’ dance last night, were hostesses at a large buffet dinner party held at Riccarton House before the dance. Miss Isobel Wright (Cashmere) will leave-soon to visit her grandparents in Australia before leaving for England. Blanco White, daughter of Mrs Amber Blanco White and granddaughter of the late Hon. W. Pember Reeves, is a member of the Mars Group of Modern Architectural Research, which is responsible for the excellent display ‘ of new architecture and np-to-date housing at the New Burlingtdn Galleries. Miss Blanco White is a practising architect, and has designed, among other things, working-class flats on very modern lines. She considers that the woman architect df to-day has a capacity for detail and breadth of interest that makes her a great asset in the planning, of housing schemes. .

The youngest lady-in-waiting in the service of the Royal Family has just been appointed. She is 25-year-old Miss Peggy Gdrdon-Moore. who will accompany Princess Marie Louise on her trip round Africa.

A pleasant afternoon tea party was held at Death’s tearooms by Mrs John Oakes to wish “bon voyage’’ to Miss Doris Reeves before she left on a holiday visit to Australia. Those present were Miss- D.
