BRITISH AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS

♦ TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND VOLUNTEER HELP (Received January 18, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 17. Wing Commander Hodsoll, Inspec-tor-General of the Air Raid Precautions Department, told a Leeds audience that 200,000 volunteers for air raid precaution work had come forward. Many more were needed. Dr. W. C. Bentall said the security against the employment of gas in future wars was directly proportionate to the preparedness for it. The respirators now being made were completely efficient against tear gas, sneezing gas, and choking gas like phosgene, and gave 75 per cent, protection against mustard gas.
