TO THE EDITOH 0» THB PBBSS. Sir.—l read with sorrow Miss Davies's extract from the "Morning Post." In my ignorance I Was not aware that Miss Davies was a believer in things spiritual, but, rather, by her previous letters, that she held more practical and commonsense opinions. Prayers and. religious faith may have suited our forefathers, but do not meet the need in these modern times, with our civilised and drastic ills. They are at best merely poor substitutes for backbone, brains, and common sense; and those who fail to recognise this are still at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder. - "Man, know thyself, and help thyself," would be an estimable maxim for the gullible and pseudo ailing ones who suppose themselves-cured by this admixture of medical religiosity. The doctor whose fashionable clientele suffers from little more than imagination and megrims may find it politic to attend Divine service, but to my mind the two practices, like oil and water, will not mix.—Yours, etc., D.A.G.
