BOWLS KIA TOA CLUB EIGHT RINK COMPETITION FAVOURED The Kia Toa Bowling Club, at its annual meeting, at which Mr W. Berry presided, agreed to instruct its delegate to the South Canterbury Centre to support an eight-rink competition. It was decided that all competitions bo played, as last year, on the two-life system, the match committee to fix a forfeit scheme. The annual report and balancesheet. showing the cl.ub to be in a healthy financial position, were adopted. , ~ Mr J. T. Hunt said that the grass could be sown on the new green at the end of February. MAGISTRATE’S COURT AT TIMARU FINES FOR BREACHES OF TRAFFIC LAWS Mr H. Morgan, S.M„ presided over yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Timaru. Ashley Bent was charged with having driven a car at a speed which might have been dangerous to the public. Inspector D. Cameron stated that defendant crossed four intersections at 40 miles an hour A fine of £2, with an order for costs, Was imposed. John James Grandie, a youth, was fined £2, and ordered to pay costs, for a similar offence. For riding a bicycle without a light at night, Bernard Peter Collins, who did not appear, wss fined 7s 6d, with an order for costs. Edward Neil Fitzgerald was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order, the warrant to be suspended so long as he pays 10s weekly off arrears, and maintains current payments. GOLF NORTH END CLUB Following are the results of club competitions played by the North End Golf Club: Championship;— Senior Semi-final—A. Rosp beat A. Burrows, J. Mason beat P. Vesty.
