ANNUAL MEETING HELD AT ASHBURTON

A decision to ask the Government to decide what is a reasonable livins allowance for Crown tenants was made bv the Ashburton branch of the Crown Tenants' Association at its annual meeting yesterday. Mr B. Mackay (president) presided. The balance-sheet showed that the year began with a credit of £4 Is lid. and closed with a credit of 15s The president, in his report, said that during the year the delegates at-

tended meetings of the Dominion executive at Timaru. and all Ashburton resolutions had received a very good bearing. The president said he was sure that mrther legislation would have to be provided to put the Crown settler on a fair basis on the land. The machinery was there and it all depended on the administration. The following officers were elected: President Mr B Mackay: vice-presi-dent. Mr R. T. Latimer: secretary and treasurer. Mr W. H. Amos: standing committee, the president, vice-presi-dent Messrs J. H. Robertson. K W Wightman. C. C. Wim. L. L. Aitken. F. W. Rogers. W. R. Hammond. J W Riley, and M P 'W. Mr AitVen moved that they support the resolution of the Washdykf branch which had protested against the lack of headway made by the department? concerned towards voluntary readjustment of mortgages.
