OFFICE SAFE FORCED
Thieves on Thursday night or early yesterday morning forced the door of a steel safe in the office of Smiths Ltd., engineers, Norwich quay J? or their labours they secured only sixpence, that being the only cash in the safe. When the office was opened yesterday morning by Mr L. C. Vincent, manager of the works, he found the office in a state o. disorder. The door was off the safe, and the small steel drawers inside had also been forced open. A crowbar and a hacksaw were left on the floor. The task of opening the safe was made easy through the thieves having to their hand a whole machine-shop full of tools, many of them particularly suitable fcr the work. Mr Vincent said that the hacksaw had been used with a considerable degree of skill. Personal Constable G. Anderson, of the Christchurch Police Force, is temporarily attached to the Lyttelton lorce. Seamen's Institute An enjoyable social evening, arranged by the Lyttelton Ladies Guild, was held in the Seamen's Institute on Thursday evening, when seamen and others from the ships in port were entertained. Games and community singing were held and musical items were given and supper was served to the vicitors.
