OFFICIAL FORECASTS ITHE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, June 6: The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealmg with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to strong: south-west-erly winds, weather cold and changeable, with occasional show- *"j ers and possibly hail in coastal areas; seas rather rough with a considerable southerly swell. . The official Dominion forecast Is: — j Changeable with scattered showers, more especially in eastern districts and the far north and south; temperatures cold, with many sharp frosts. Pressure is still low east of the Dominion, and a slight secondary depression is passing in the south to-day. An intense anticyclone covering eastern Australia, and centred over Tasmania, is extending across the Tasman Sea. Winds—South-westerlies to southerlies prevailing, moderate to strong generally, and of gale force in some exposed positions, more especially along the East Coast south of East Cape and in the far south. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough north of Farewell Spit, and rather rough with a considerable southerly swell south of East Cape; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderate to strong southerly winds, with moderate to rather rough seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER In Christchurch the week-end was fairly fine, with a light south-westerly wind blowing for most of Saturday. The cold weather continued yesterday although the wind died down towards evening. No rain fell, but the sky was clouded at times. The maximum temperatures for the two days were 44.5 degrees and 51.2 degrees respectively. At 1 o'clock light rain was falling and a strong south-westerly wind was blowing. The temperature was 47 degrees and the barometer, rising slowly, registered 29.77 inches. Auckland —The week-end was stormy and unsettled. A fresh south-westerly wind blew on Saturday, and the afternoon was wintry, with frequent showers. The night was stormy, with more rain, and the barometer remained at a low level. The weather was again unsettled yesterday, and there were several heavy showers. The afternoon was fine, but the sky was overcast, and there was a cold south-westerly wind. Wellington—Saturday morning was fine, with a light north-westerly wind. In the afternoon, the wind changed to a light southerly and thereafter it was showery- Later a fall of snow occurred, with quite a heavy coating on the surrounding hills. Yesterday was a sunny day, with a light, west-south-westerly breeze in the morning, changing to northerly during the afternoon. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 50.1 degrees, and on Sunday 51.0 degrees. Dunedin—A light fall of snow occurred early on Saturday morning, and, snow, hail, and sleet showers fell at intervals throughout the day. There was a cold fresh breeze from the southwest, with gusts of considerable force, and the temperature was low throughout the day, the maximum being 50 degrees. The barometer rose steadily. There was a marked improvement yesterday, a mild westerly breeze melting the snow rapidly. The maximum temperature was 58 degrees, and the barometer registered 29.70 inches.
