NEW BRIGHTON ATHLETIC CLUB
* PRESENTATIONS OF CUPS WON DURING YEAR The annual dance of the New Brighton Amateur Athletic Club was held on Saturday evening, when the trophies won during the season were presented by Mr A. I. Hughes (club president). He congratulated the winners on their success. Mrs A. I. Hughes, wife of the president, presented H. Cook with the blue ribbon. Mr E. L. Smith (Mayor), who was the first organiser and treasurer of the club, congratulated the winners and referred to the satisfactory position of the club financially and numerically. Mr E Ford, president of the Canterbury Centre, said that he was particularly gratified that the club was giving special attention to junior members and encouraging the younger boys and 'girls to take an active and keen interest in amateur sport. He paid a special tribute to the club's organiser, Mr R. A. Lowe. Trophies were presented as follows: Aggregate cup, N. Cook; field event cup, T. Wilhelm; distance cup, A. G. Donohue; sprint cup, N. Cook; Mayor's cup, D. Gibson; championship ribbon, N. Cook; Cook Cup, T. Wilhelm; junior cup, W. RO'Neil; ladies' cup, Mrs S. Cooper; primary schoolboys, H. Kerr and G. Bolton (equal); primary uchoolglxls, H, Smith.
