TWO RETAINED AND ONE LOST (Received., April -30, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 29. The by-election for the West Birmingham seat, made vacant by the death of Sir Austen Chamberlain, resulted: — Higgs (Conservative) .'./' .. 12,552 Grossman (Labour) .. 9.63^ Majority for Higgs .. 2,920 The polling at the general election in 1935 resulted:—Sir A. Chamberlain (Cons.), 16,530; O. G. Wilby (Lab.), 9159. ■ The Wandsworth by-election, caused by the death of Sir Henry Jackson, resulted: — Major H. L. Nathan (Lab.) 12,406. Roland Jennings (Cons.)' 11,920 Majority for Nathan .. 486 The result of the polling at the general election in 1935 was:—Sir Henry Jackson (Unionist), 14,728; F. W. Davies (Lab.), 10,405. The by-election for the Stalybridge and Hyde seat,, rendered necessary by the resignation of Mr P. Dunne (Unionist), resulted: — Trevor Cox (National Cons.) 21,901 Rev. Gordon Lang (Labour) 21,567 Majority'for Cox .. 334 The result of t the polling at the general election 'was as follows:—P. Dunne (Unionist), 25,502; R. W. Casasola (Lab0ur),,20,421.
