PACIFIC SHIPPING STRIKE

RESOLUTION INTRODUCED IN CONGRESS (Received January 15, 7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 14. A resolution suspending the operation of the continuous discharge book for seamen for six months was introduced in the House of Representatives by Representative Sirovich who said that it was intended as a means of contributing to the settlement of the maritime strike.

AN EAST COAST STRIKE ENDED

STATEMENT BY OFFICIALS (Received January 16, 12.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, January 15. The Masters, Mates, and Pilots of America and the National Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association abandoned their strike in east coast ports after a conference. Officials afterwards issued an explanation that the activities of parties not connected with their organisation had placed them in a bad light. They felt that it would be best for all concerned to end the strike. <
