FATAL AIR CRASH IN CALIFORNIA
ONE DEAD AND TWELVE INJURED (Received January 13, 9.20 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, January 12. A transport aeroplane carrying 13 persons, including Mr Martin Johnson and Mrs. Johnson, the famous explorers, crashed in fog and rain on the mountains near Burbank, in this state. The first reports say that ,one person is dead and all the others are injured. Mr and Mrs Johnson are both unconscious. Definite information is difficult to obtain because the crash occurred in almost inaccessible country. A rescue party is struggling over rugged, muddy hillsides through rain, snow, and fog. The rescuers verified that one person was dead and 12 were injured. Mr Johnson suffered a fractured skull, and his right hip was broken, and Mrs Johnson suffered a broken leg and back injuries. Almost all the others suffered broken bones. The pilot explained that because of the remarkable conditions there were so many voices giving radio weather reports that he could not determine which was intended for him.
