MORE MONEY TO SPEND

Wagering On The Totalisator INCREASES AT MOST MEETINGS The bigger totalisator investment* which have been marked during the list year continue, and although two of five meetings held yesterday recorded decreases, the other three compensated generously, the aggregate increase over the five meetings being £20,752. The only increase in the race meetings was at Manawatu, where the total rose by £l2 237 Small decreases were recorded at both the Dunedin and Taranaki meetings on their second days Dunedin showed a decrease over the two days of the meeting, the amount being £ 1324, but on the two days of the Taranaki meeting there was an increase of £2249. The Manawatu meeting which has shown big increases on the first two daya has yet one more day. The trotting meeting at Wairarapa showed another small increase in investments on the day's racing, and the Auckland meeting recorded an increase of nearly £14,000 on the first day. The comparative figures for yesterday's racing are:—

Hugo increases are shown over the corresponding figures for 1931, at the depth of the depression. Comparisons for all the meetings are not possible because some of the meetings have been reduced from two days to one, and others have been extended. The Auckland figures are for the first days of the respective meetings and show an increase of £31,160 for the first day. Another big increase is shown for the first two days of the three-day Manawatu meeting, the actual increase being £ 26,500. The increase for the two days of the Dunedin meeting was £9658. It is not possible to give fair comparisons for other meetings because of changed circumstsncGS At the trotting meetings the increases were not so marked, the biggest being at Ashburton, where the totalisator investments for the or.eday meeting increased by £14.541. For the first day of the Auckland meeting the increase was £12,312. At the Gore one-day meeting the increase was £4891. Because of changed circumstances comparisons over the five years for the Wairarapa and Westport meetings would not give fair indications of the trend of investments.
