With the opening to-morrow of the ninety-ninth automatic exchange in the London telephone fiTea, the development of the automatic system is carried to a stage where roughly half t all the London area subscribers are served by this method. The change-over is at the Royal Exchange, serving a busy commercial area, on the South-east boundary of the city. The traffic passing through the exchange, which has provision for 9400 lines, reaches about 17,000 calls hourly at the busiest part of the day.
