MINIATURE RIFLES A team of men from the Waiau club visited Kaikoura on Saturday and fired % triangular match against two Kaikoura teams, the Kaikoura A team winning With a' fair margin. The total scores were Kaikoura A 767, Kaikoura B 743, Waiau 741. The visitors were welcomed by Mr H. Hayward (president), to which Mr K, Dunbar (Waiau captain) replied. After the shooting the visitors were entertained at supper, and a dance followed to music played by Mesdames W. Sabiston and T. Reardon. Women’s Hockey Playing at Kaikoura on Saturday, Kaikoura beat Culverden by three goals to two in the first round of the Mount Palm hockey competition. The game was keenly contested and played at a fast pace. For Kaikoura Miss R. Hendry scored two goals and Mrs Poyzer one. For Culverden Miss P. Mockett scored two goals. Messrs R. Clark (Kaikoura) and Gallagher (Culverden) were the referees. A competition match will be played against Waiau next Saturday. Rugby Football Kaikoura senior and junior teams travelled to Waikari on Saturday and played competition matches against the United Club. 'The local seniors were beaten by 32 points to 3, and the juniors by 16 points to 0. Matches for next Saturday are:— Senior v. Hanmer Springs; junior v. Scargill. Both matches will be played at Kaikoura. SOCIAL AT COALGATE A most successful social evening, which was organised by the Coalgate Women’s Institution, was held in the Masonic Hall, Coalgate. During the evening competitions were won by Mr and Mrs S. Marsh (Glentunnel), Miss D. Oliver, and Mr T. Charles, and Miss Alla way and partner. Community singing was enjoyed and songs were contributed by Misses M. Campbell, M, McCaughan, and G. Jewell. The dance music was played by Mrs J. McCaughan, Miss M. Charles, and Mr Pettitt Messrs Johnston and C. Milne were masters of ceremonies.
