TOWN-PLANNING INSTITUTE
CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH'S ANNUAL MEETING "The lack of interest shown in town planning by the last Government, and the failure of the Town-Planning Board to approve the Christchurch townplanning scheme for submission to the ratepayers, probably had an adverse effect on last year's attendances," stated the annual report presented to the Christchurch branch of the TownPlanning Institute of New Zealand last night. "It is to be hoped that this year will see a big forward move in town-planning." Mr A. R. Galbraith presided over an attendance of 21.
A decrease of two in the membership of the branch was shown in the report, the number of members being 53. Five lectures had been given to the branch, the speakers being Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, and Messrs J. W. Muggins, E. Hitchcock, J. C. Forsyth, and A. R. Galbraith, Housing in New Zealand, land settlement planning and the Summit road had been discussed. The executive had also considered questions arising from the Timaru town-planning scheme. Mr Galbraith had been elected president of the Dominion institute, and succeeded in stimulating interest in town-planning in New Zealand. Officers Elected
