greymouth LADIES* GOLF CLUB (SPECIAL TO THE PBESS.) GREYMOUTH, March 28. At the annual meeting of the Greymouth Ladies’ Golf Club Mrs Allan Smith, club captain, presided over an attendance of 20 members. The annual report and balance-sheet, showing a credit of £26, were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Captain, Mrs Allan Smith; secretary, Miss J. Hambleton; handicap manager, Mrs J. W. Hannan; committee, Mrs L. F. Hogg, Mrs F. A. Kitchingham, and officers.

Four resignations were received. 4 It was left to Mrs Hogg and the secretary to arrange for all new members to be given a round by the senior members, who will instruct them on rules and etiquette. Inquest Opened
Before the coroner, Mr H. Morgan, this morning, an inquest was opened into the death of George Kelly, bushman, who received iatal injuries when he was crushed by a log in the bush near Camerons yesterday afternoon. James McFarlane, a trolleyman, gave evidence of identification. tie said that Kelly had been employed as a winchdriver. He was married, 41 years of age, and lived with his wife and family at Camerons. Witness had worked with Kelly for some time, and as far as witness knew he had always enjoyed good health. The coroner ordered a post-mortem examination, and adjourned the proceedings sine die. Hydro Power Schemes
The possibilities of hydro-electric power schemes at Tiaroha (Upper Kokatahi) and Kakapotahi (Waitaha) are at present being investigated by two., separate parties of surveyors and engineers, under the supervision of the Public Works Department, and will take some time. When a scheme is decided upon, it is understood, no time will be lost in getting the work under way, with Government assistance, to enable power to be provided for the new dredge to be erected at Kanieri.
The power station, reticulation, and the dredge itself will mean the spending of a considerable amount of money in the Hokitika district. Debating Club Meets v Mr S. Braithwaite presided at the annual meeting of the Runanga Debating Club. In reviewing the last year, he said that it had been very successful, seeing that the club had been established for only two years. It was regrettable that the public did not take a more active interest in de-
bating, but the West Coast Debating Clubs’ League was now on a firm basis, and should act as a stimulus to debating. Officers elected were:—President, Mr T. Walker; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Unwin and S. Braithwaite; secretary, Mr L. Cook (re-elected); treasurer, Mr A. Aims; auditors, Mr T. Dale and Mr J. Kelly; committee, Messrs D. Barnes, S. Braithwaite, and C. Harris. Mr I. Powell was elected a life member of the club. Personal Mr H. Vickerman, of Wellington, is visiting Greymouth to discuss the proposed new constructional work on the Grey Electric Power Board’s dam at
