PERIOD EXTENDED
PAYMENT OP CITY KATES WITHOUT PENALTY
The period during which rates may be paid without the penalty of 10 per cent, has been extended by the Christchurch City Council until 4 p.m. on March 31. According to a previous announcement, the penalty was tp be imposed after March 26. Authority to postpone the date for the imposition of the penalty was given on Saturday by the chairman of the finance committee, Cr. E. H. Andrews; after consultation with the Mayor. Mr J. W, Beahlahd. This action w as suggested by a Statement made by the Minister lor Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, that it was the intention Of the Government tp introduce legislation during the present session to authorise local bodies, |f they desired, to remit or postpone the additional charge of 10 per cept, on unpaid rates for the cprrent year. In stating the council’s intention, Cr. Andrews said that the further period would not run after March 31.
