A. AND P. ASSOCIATION ARRANGEMENTS FOR RAM FAIR DISCUSSED At the last meeting of the committee of the Waimate Agricultural and Pastoral Association those ; present were: Messrs F. Brown (chairman), D. T. Larnach. A. W. Barnett, J. H. Milne, E. Stokes, E. B. Harrison, J. I ■ Hayman. H. B. L. Johnstone, A. Medlicott, M. Mcßae. R. Sinclair. J. C. Hay, J. Dempsey, E- G. Hay, H. J. C. Harner T. B. W. Hamilton, E. C. d’Auvergne, J. Mcßae, N. A. Rattray. Mr Harper said that, as marshal for the sheep section at the show, he had found that there were insufficient stewards. He recommended that there should be at least tw. o stewards for each judge and three stewards in the fat lamb section and one in the wool classing. ■. Mr Harper’s recommendation was referred to the incoming committee The secretary reported that the matI ter referred to the Clydesdale committee at the last meeting had been attended to. Mr J. Reid, with 24 points, was awarded second Place, out the adjustment had made no difference in the winning, of the cup, as Mr C. H. S. Johnstone had gamed 29 points. The secretary of the country queen in the Plunket Society’s carnival wrote soliciting the support of the association, and requesting the use of the Show Grounds for a gymkhana and also for permission to run a luncheon booth at the ram fair. It was decided to grant the requests, the use of the Show Grounds to be subject to the consent of the tenant. The Royal Agricultural Society wrote [ asking the committee to submit show dates for the 1936-37 season. It was decided to submit as a tentative date the Tuesday following the Royal Show at Christchurch. The following recommendations put forward by a meeting between representatives from the committee and the Stock Auctioneers’ Association to speed up the ram fair were approved as amended: That the ring be eight yards in diameter; that five tickets be placed at each pen, and that the vendors, vendors’ agents, and the man in charge be responsible for the ticketing of rams; that the auctioneers should approach the vendors and endeavour to arrange an upset price for each class; that a man be engaged to assist at the fair, and be responsible for deliveries, the expenses of this man to be shared by the Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Auctioneers’ Association, the Agricultural and Pastoral Association to accept ho responsibilities for deliveries: that the caterer have lunch ready at 10 o’clock, to enable the sale to continue without a luncheon adjournment; that the sale begin at 10.30 a.m. Mr Harper was appointed to represent the association at a meeting of the Royal Society in Christchurch on March 19. A decision not to participate in a proposal to form a standing committee representative of all farmers’ organisations in South Canterbury was made. . It was 'decided to inform the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association,* which forwarded details of the propos: 1 that 'in the opinion of the committee the expression of farmers’ opinions was adequately covered b' r the Fanners’ Union, tne Crown Tenants’ Association, and the Sheepowners’ Union. The motion was carried with seyeral dissentient voices. Personal . Mrs J. H. Betten has received notification from the Minister for Justice of her reappointment for the ensuing year as officer - for child welfare for the district. Mr R. Eddy left Waimate on Saturday afternoon on a visit to Wellington. Mr J. -Wilce, of Wellington, and formerly of Waimate, has returned lor a short visit. Messrs J. McKenzie and G. R. O’Malley, of the Waimate Tennis Club, have been selected as members of the North Otago team to play against Southland, at Invercargill, on March 23. The Queen Carnival Mrs Forbes Wallace, the country queen, is still leading in the Plunket Society’s queen carnival. Next week will see the wind-up of the campaign, and each committee is preparing for the final events of its programme. Last Friday a stall was run for the town queen. Miss Molly Larnach, and on Saturday a successful evening in support of the sports queen, Mrs N. A. Rattray, was held at “Te Kiteroa, the heme of Mr and Mrs W. D. Napier. Ladies’ Golf Club At the annual general meeting of the Waimate Ladies’ Golf Club the following officers were elected:—President, Mrs H. Hertslet; vice-president, Mrs E. B. Fraser; secretary. Mrs O. Johnson: treasurer, Miss A. Jones; captain. Miss R. Hertslet; deputy-cap-tain. Mrs A. Grant; committee, Mesdames J. C. Templer, L. W. Leslie, N. A. Rattray, R. Carleton, and Miss Brownlie; convener (women’s matches), Mrs A. Bringans; (men’s matches), Mrs H. Hertslet. Conveners will arrange their own helpers. At a committee meeting the following match committee was apopinted: Mesdames A. Grant, and N. A. Rattray, Miss E. Jones, captain and secretary.
