WELLINGTON R.C.

PROGRAMME FOR TOMORROW The ( Wellington Racing Club's summer meeting will be commenced at Trentham, to-morrow. Indications 1 point to , the track being soft, but hot heavy, and some interesting racing should be seen. The win and" place system will again be in use. The programme is as follows: — 12.15 p.m.— KAXTOKE HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. One mile. st. lb • St. lb. % Ethiop .'. 10 0 Sky Pilot ..9 4 Manifesto .. 9 11 Wonderful 9 4 Brown Pearl 9 9 Conception 9 0 Blue Tiger 9 9 Petrarch ..9 0 Royal Papa 9 9 Seamond ..9 0 Shy ..9 4- Sunder ..9 0 Contract -.. 9 4 The opening event, the Kaitoke High-weight Handicap, has attracted the usual evenly-balanced field, and as in past years a good race should be provided. Sky Pilot failed badly at the Manawatu meeting last month, but that was not his right form, and he should be seen to better advantage here. Sky Pilot, Shy, and Ethiop may fight out the finish. 12.57 p.m.— WELLINGTON STAKES, of 500 sovs. For two and three-year-olds. Weight-for-age. Five furlongs. st. lb. st. lb. Silver Sail 8 3 Gay Chief ... 6 12 Symcony .. 8 3 Mala .. 6 12 Wild Chase 7 8 Notium' .. 6 12 Paper Slipper 7 3 Moquetts, .. 6 12 Deficit .. 6 12 ' Cerne Abbas 6 9 I There will be some smart sprinters paraded for the Wellington Stakes, and speculation should be well distributed. The older brigade is represented by Silver Sail and Symcony,' who have both shown good form of late, and the younger division will have proved performers to carry its banner. The best supported may be Symcony, Silver Sail, and Paper Slipper. 1.40 p.m.— APPRENTICES' PLATE, of 200 sovs. Hack conditions. Apprentice riders. Seven furlongs. st. lb. St.-lb. Darecourt 8 5 Begorrah .. 7 9 Golden Dart 8 5 Corroborree 7 9 Revival .. 8 5 Blue Garter 7 6 Silver Jest 8 5 Hine Ra ..7 6 Solaria ..8 5 The Apprentices' Plate will, as its. name implies, be confined to apprentice riders, and the decisions of investors will depend largely on the choice of the young horseman available. On recent North Island form, Corroboree, Solaria, Darecourt, Silver Jest, and Hine Ra must be taken into serious consideration, and on West Coast results, although generally underestimated, Golden Dart has bright prospects. The placed division may be comprised of Golden Dart. Corroboree, and Silver Jest. 2.22 p.m.— • FITZHERBERT HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. For two-year-olds. Five furlongs. st. lb. st. lb. Brabant .. 8 10 Birthday Laughing Party 7 3 Lass 8 3 Missal .. 7 3 Studley Nurse Royal 8 0 Nightingale 7 3 Double Gift 7 13 The Brilliancy .. 7 9 Squanderer 7 3 Cricket .. 7 7 Black Fox 7 0 Mandamus 7 6 Impersonator 7 0 Chaytor -. 7 & Jovial Prince 7 ■ O , Custos .. 7 6 Sea Wrack 7 0 Toorak ..701 An attractive list of two-year-olds is carded for the T'ltzherbert Handicap. The best performances are probably held by Brabant and Laughing Lass, while Studley Royal, Double Gift. Custos, Cricket, and Deficit have all creditably. Custos attracted attention by separating Paper Slipper and Wild Chase on the concluding day of the New Zealand Cup meeting, and'has made gradual impt'pyq-' ment since.; The final issue may rest between Custos, Studley Royal, and Laughing Lass. 3.2 p.m.— WELLINGTON CUP, of 600 sovs. One mile and a half. st. lb. st. lb. Cuddle .. 9 11 Gay Broney 7 5 Silver Ring 9 9 Senior ..7 4 Kinnoull ..8 5 Tout le Might ..8 0 Monde 7 4 Grand Jury 7 13 Sunee .. 7 3 Spiral .. 7 10 Queen of " Argentic ..79 Song -7 2 Davolo .. 7 8 Red "Sun ..70 Sweet Agnes 7 8 Rona Bay .. 7 0 Lowehberg 7 7 Silk Sox ... 7 0 Hunting Cat 7 6 Windsoreen 7 0 The contest for the Wellington Cup can be confidently anticipated to be one of the most interesting in the histor;- of the long-established event. All of the candidates have been seen in action during the last month or so, and form has been well exposed. Cuddle holds pride of place, and. racegoers are looking forward to seeing another clash between her and Silver Ring and with Kinnoull. Both beat her at Riccarton, but since then she won the Auckland Cup from barrier rise with 9-0, and two weight-for-age races at Ellerslie. The only thing likely to upset her chance, is a heavy track, which will also not suit Silver Ring, but will not affect Kinnoull. Silver Ring looked in hardened condition at Riccarton last week, and is in more advanced order than may generally be thought. He and Kinnoull will, however, both be at disadvantages in not having had a race since November. The opinions of the public have suggested that the issue rests between this trio, but there are others in the list entitled to more than passing reference: "These include Might, Grand Jury, Spiral, Argentic, Hunting Cat, Queen of Song, and Rona Bay, and any one is capable of effecting a surprise. On form as stayers however, it is difficult to go past Cuddle, Silver Ring and Kinnoull. 3.47 p.m.— RUAPEHU HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. Six furlongs, st. lb. st. lb. Whyte Going Gay ..7 9 . Melville 8 7 Caen ..78 Boomerang 8-6 The Sandwich Violehta ~8 6 Man 7 8 Erua ..85 Shy .. 7 6 Colombo .. 8 2 Roaming .. 7 4 Lord Moutoa 8 0 Algol .. 7 0, Chief Ranger 7 13 Aotopeen .. 7 0\ Vinco ... 7 10 Sansfoy ..7 0 The North Island is worthily represented in the Ruanehu Handicap by Whyte Melville, Boomerang, Erua, Lord Moutoa, Chief Ranger, and Vinco while the southerners. Violenta, Colombo, and Roaming, have favourable prospects. Violenta would be recommended if it were certain she would leave the barrier on level terms, as she commands a marked turn ot speed. The favourite division is likely to be made uo of Whyte Melville, Violenta, and Boomerang. 4.30 p.m.— TELEGRAPH HANDICAP, of 300 sovs. Six furlongs. st. lb. st. lb. Silver Streak 8 10 Queen of Song 7 7 Knockfin ... 8 8 Acceptable.. 7 5 Princess Copyist .. 7 2 Doreen 8 7 MissHushabye 7 2 Diatomous 8 2, Cheap Money 7 0 Bon Tray .. 7 8 Fullojoy .. 7 0 Great Star 7 8 Master Variant ..7 7 Reynard 7 0 Investors will be faced with the annual problem presented by the Telegraph Handicap, the field for which is up to the usual high standard. Each island will be represented bv some of its best open sprinters, and with firm track fast time will be recorded. The final summing up may be in favour of Great Star, Knockfir- and Silver Streak. 5.12 p.m.— ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. One mile. st. lb. s t. ib. Rebel Chief 9 2 Superex ~8 2 Kemal Pasha 9 i Dollar Prince 8 0 After Money 8 8 Full Throttle 8 0 Plato ..88 Knock Out ..80 Tunneller ~87 Metal Bird .. 80 Round Score .B 2 >• A close contest seems likely in the Anniversary Handicap, and again speculation will' take a wide range. Recent winning form is vstrongly, represented in the field, and investors will have plenty of material to guide them. On Oamaru form, Rebel Chief |
