WELLINGTON V. CANTERBURY
THE VISITORS* TEAM The Wellington Association Football, representative team to play Canterbury next Saturday at English Park at 3 p.m. is as follows:—P. Turkington, W. Hopner, S. Haines, J. Hindle, A. Longbottom, R. Cocks, J. Marshall, J. Shankie, C. Webster, J. Hatchard, B. Craig, and G. Sutherland (reserve)). The team is reported to be an exceptionally strong one. and includes five men who have previously represented the province. Cocks and Hatchard are only 18 years of age, and are both very tricky players. Turkington replaces J. Wyatt, who has been ill. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING The management committee of the Canterbury Football Association met last evening. Those present were Messrs J. E. Jones (chairman), B. O. Priddis, J. Lindley, R. B. Bunt, H. Weatherhead, R. Wood, F. T. H. Bell, J. E. Foote. C. E. Keys, L. F. Foote, and E. J. Kenny.
R. D. Mitchell was suspended lor two playing Saturdays for using bad language at a meeting of the judicial committee before the ordinary meeting.
Arrangements were completed for the Wellington v. Canterbury interprovincial match to be held at English Park on Saturday at 3 p.m., and for the entertainment of the visiting team. Mr J. Cawtheray was appointed referee for the match and Messrs T. Hastings and R. C. Neville linesmen.
It was decided that the curtainraiser be the Marist v. Western fifth grade competition match. Mr Bell was appointed official representative of the Canterbury Football Association to take charge of the Wellington team and Mr R. Wood manager of the Canterbury team. It was decided to entertain the teams and the referee at dinner on Saturday night. M. Mitchell was appointed captain of the Canterbury team.
Permission was granted the Salvation Army to hold a match between the city and the St. Albans corps at Malvern Park next Saturday. The secretary, Mr R. B. Bunt, reported that in reply to his telegram to the Auckland Football Association asking for a date for Canterbury's challenge match, he had received a telegram stating that they were unable to accept the challenge, and that a letter of explanation was following. Mr Bunt said that this non-accept-ance of the challenge was high-handed and contrary to the rules of the New Zealand Association. The matter was left over till the next meeting. A cup for the seventh grade knockout competition on August 3 was given by Mr B: O. Priddis.
REVIVAL AT SUNNYSIDE MATCH WITH AIR FORCE TEAM A friendly match will be played today on the sporls ground at Sunnyside, between a team composed of several players of the old Sunnyside soccer team, and a team from the Air Force. An interesting came should rdsult in which many players who represented one of the premier teams in New Zealand a few years ago, will participate. Many followers of the code will remember such players as R. Purdie, J. Jackson, H. Thompson, and J. Simpson, who will take part in to-day's same. The team will be:—R. Purdie, H. Thompson, J. Simpson. W. Barron, W. Ellis, G. Newton, H. Hirst, MaLecd, J. Jackson, C. Milne, and L. Gordon.
