General Evangeline Booth, world leader of the Salvation Army, was given a stirring farewell when she sailed by the Mariposa this afternoon. The same hymn sung to her father many years ago was sung as the ship drew out by a large number of Salvationists and others gathered on the balcony of the wharf-shed. "New Zealanders are a lovely people," she said just before embarking. "I am in earnest when I say that about you, and you will live in my heart for ever, but I am coming back to you again, God willing, and wi then stop longer to learn about you all. She said her visit had surpassed her expectations. She announced that it had been decided to enlarge the Salvation Army's maternity hospital in Wellington, especially a wing for unmarried mothers, and she had inaugurated a £IOOO fund for the purpose.
