WOMEN'S INSTITUTE^

BURNHAM Mrs J. W. Lill presided over a .good , attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Burnham Women's Institute. The roll call was "My favour# ite name for boy or girl." In the ab- % sence of a lecturer, Miss Agnes Scott; gave a very interesting reading oil "Travel in Cornwall." It was decided, to knit peggy squares for the next ; month's competition. A competition for three plain scories, judged by Mrs Alderslade (North Island), resulted as follows:—Miss .L. - Williams 1, Mrs E. Coleman 2, and Mrs C. Storie 3. During the social half-hour an amusing competition was won by Miss Wright. A sales table! - was in charge of Mrs A. Peryer. The meeting concluded with community ; singing, Mrs J. W. Lill acting as accompanist. They hostesses were Mesdames Wilson, C. Storie, Misses J. Scott and M. Tweed. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being members of the committee. AKAROA At the monthly meeting of theAka- ■ roa Women's Institute, Mrs G. A. Hammond presided over a good attendance. An interesting demonstration of rag-mat making was given by Mrs p. Dick (Barry's Bay). Competitions, in exhibiting chrysanthe-; mums and autumn foliage, were won by Miss M. Jacobson and Mrs H. J., Lelievre respectively. Reference was made to the impending departure of two members, Mrs H. Nelson Wright • and Miss Nancy Wright, who were : presented with bouquets.
