MORE MONEY FOR POST OFFICE
❖ .BRITISH DEVELOPMENT FRESH BORROWING POWERS MAY RE NEEDED (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIBBI,«SS.) (Received February 14, 7.5 p.m.) RUGBY, February 13. Increased Post Office expenditure attributable to the recovery in trade and industry, combined with the increase in telephone subscribers and traffic since the reduction in rates last October, are provided for in a bill now published. In 1935-36 expenditure of £9,467,000 will be required for telephones and £1,053,000 for postal and telegraph services. Thp bill seeks authority for the issue of £34,000,000, but the memorandum states that if the present rate of development continues, fresh borrowing powers must be sought before the autumn of 1938.
