FALSE DECLARATION
APPLICANTS FOR RELIEF FINED ITRtaS ASSOCIATION TELEQBAM.) LEVIN, January 31. Before Mr J. H. Salmon in the Magistrate's Court to-day two men pleaded guilty and were fined £2 with costs on each of two charges of making false declarations in respect of their applications for unemployment relief as to their private incomes. One had received sums of £ll 9s 6d and £lO lis, whereas actually he had earned £77 10s and £l7 13s 4d. His actual earnings averaged £3 Is 6d, which amount did not entitle him to ration relief. The other man's private earnings amounted to more than £IOB, and in addition he received relief to the extent of £2B Bs. The magistrate said the defendants had been drawing relief from a fund which was derived from direct taxation, and they had depleted the fund to the extent mentioned.
