| GREYMOUTH | PERSONAL (81'ECIAL TO THE rBBSa.) GH&YMOUTH, January 31. Misses M. and N. McDonnell ]eft to-day on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Miss V. Wallace returned to-day from Christchurch. Miss Jean McLaren left to-day on return to Auckland. Mr and Mrs J. Braidwood left today for Christchurch. Mr Fred Manson, in view of liis approaching marriage to Miss G. Woodward, of Westport, was met by the boarders and staff of the Royal Hotel, Greymouth. and by his friends and made the recipient of several gifts. The presentation of an eiderdown and cushion on behalf of Mr A. Lees, boarders, and friends, and an afternoon tea service, from Mrs Lees and daughters were made by Mr T. Lawry. Chateau Moana Mr and Mrs E, L. McKeon have purchased the lease of the Chateau Moana from Mr N. F. Field, and will lake possession to-morrow. Garden Party An enjoyable afternoon was spent on Wednesday, when the members of the Haeremai Croquet Club, Runanga, held a garden party. ' The grounds were lent by Mr and Mrs Hilderbrand, whose display of flowers were much admired. Various competitions and games were held and afternoon tea was Served. The winners of the competitions were: Long shot. Mrs Fluety; thread the needle race, Mesdames Manderson and Hunter; find the wool, Mrs Cullen: putting. Miss E. Waffender; fishing. Mrs T. Bowes. Accidents A crushed big toe was sustained by John McGirr. a blacksmith, employed by the Railway Department, when his foot was caught under a loaded wharf trolley at the workships. While working at the Bundi dredge at Camerons. Ivan Scott, of Runanga, was crushed between a car and a ladder on the dredge, receiving injuries to his chest and shoulder. He was admitted lo hospital. Swimming lr, the first challenge of the 1935 season for the John Burns Challenge Cup. Westport won the trophy from the Greymouth Club by 19 points to seven. Westport won the four events, the 50 yards, 100 yards, 220 yards, and relay.
