CITY OF CAMBRIDGE HARD ON REEF

H.M.S. Suffolk reached Pratus yesterday and found the City of Cambridge hard on a reef. She endeavoured to get boats alongside, but was prevented by the heavy weather. H.M.S. Suffolk reports that the captain and crew are still marooned aboard and will not leave until salvagers have reported whether the ship is likely to become a total loss.

The Danish motor-ship Victoria u;cin L.vttelton in September. 1933. with phosphates from Nauru Island. Earlier in that year, on a voyage from Ocean Island to Auckland with phosphates:, she brought to Auckland two members of the crew of the ketch Waterlily, Messrs W. J. Harris and F. St. John Parson. Described in "The Press" of September 25. 1933. as a fine type of modern cargo-carrying motor-vessel, the Victoria had a strikingly clean and wellkept appearance. She was built six years ago by the firm of Bwimeister Wain at Kobenhaven, her principal dimensions being:—Length 385 feet, beam 54 feet, depth 24 feet. She is twinscrewed, her propelling machinery consisting of two full-Diesel engines. each of 1500 horse-power. Three smaller Diesel units generated power Cor lighting, winches, and other auxiliary machinery. Steam heating was installed in both the officers' anci crews' quarters. The Victoria is owned by the Orient Steam Ship Company. Kobenhaven.
